Gurgaon: A 32-year-old bike mechanic was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly pushing his wife to her death from the terrace of a dilapidated building in Wazirpur on the night of Oct 22, following an argument over his alcohol addiction.
Police said that the deceased, Gita, who lived with the accused, Dharam Singh, in Shiv Enclave near Garhi Harsaru, had sustained fatal head injuries from the fall.Dharam took Gita to SGT Hospital in Budhera, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
"During the early hours of Wednesday, SGT Hospital alerted the Sector 93 police post regarding a woman who had been brought in dead by her husband," said inspector Sandeep of Sector 10 Police Station.
Dharam initially tried to portray the fall as an accident, telling the police that Gita had accidentally slipped and fallen from the terrace of the single-story dilapidated building while they were arguing.
"We have sent the body for post mortem examination," inspector Sandeep added.
Gita's father filed a complaint on the morning of Oct 23, alleging that his daughter had been pushed to her death by her son-in-law, who is addicted to alcohol.
A case was registered against Dharam under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS, and he was arrested in Garhi Harsaru.
During interrogation, Dharam confessed to pushing his wife in a fit of rage during their argument about his drinking habits.
"When Dharam didn't return home late Tuesday night, Gita went to the abandoned building in Wazirpur, where he usually consumed alcohol, to confront him. During the argument, Dharam pushed her from the terrace, causing a severe head injury," said Sandeep.
The accused was produced before the court on Thursday and was remanded to judicial custody.
