Amritsar: A commission agent, identified as Gurdeep Singh, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sathiala on Wednesday. Gurdeep was the former sarpanch of the village. Police suspect that old animosity may be the motive behind the killing, though investigations are ongoing. The assailants, believed to be three persons , arrived at Gurdeep Singh's shop in Sathiala market and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter, but no arrests have been made so far.
Hry govt staff to get pay early
Chandigarh: The Haryana govt has announced that it will distribute pay, allowances, and pensions to state employees and pensioners/family pensioners for Oct on 30th of this month, due to the public holidays for Diwali and Haryana Day on October 31 and November 1, respectively. An official spokesperson on Wednesday said chief minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved a proposal in this regard. Moreover, as a Diwali gift, the Haryana govt has enhanced the dearness allowance and dearness relief for state employees and pensioners/family pensioners from 50 per cent to 53 per cent.
MLA accused of abusing SDO
Hisar: The Uklana sub-divisional officer of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has written a letter to the executive engineer of Tohana division, alleging that Congress MLA from Uklana Naresh Selwal had misbehaved with him. On the other hand, the MLA has claimed that the officer did not respond when he called him over problems faced by local residents. In his complaint, the SDO said that MLA Naresh Selval came to his office with eight-ten people. “Before I could react, he started to abuse me,” he claimed. “I had not saved the MLA's number, so I could not take his phone. Being a public representative, his way of talking was not at all appropriate” the SDO said.

Hisar: The Hisar women police station on Tuesday registered a criminal case against a local BJP leader and a property dealer on charges of gangrape. According to the police, a woman has alleged that she was taken to a hotel to resolve an old dispute, where she was sexually assaulted. The BJP leader has denied the charges. The woman claimed she had met the leader over a property matter.
