Panaji: Fifty trained lifesavers, AI-powered robots, and rescue dogs will be deployed to ensure the safety of athletes participating in the fourth edition of Ironman 70.3 Goa, starting on Oct 27 at Miramar beach, North Goa.
Drishti Marine, the state’s official lifesaving agency, has partnered with the event’s promoters to safeguard the 1.9 km swim in the Arabian Sea, the triathlon’s opening challenge.
Navin Awasthi, the chief executive officer of Drishti Marine, stated that a dedicated team of 50 lifesavers will be supported by jet skis, surfboards, rescue vehicles, and motorboats. Additionally, two canines from the agency’s ‘Paw Squad’ will enhance safety efforts on the beach.
Drishti Marine will also set up medical posts with trained personnel and use all the advanced technology, including the self-driving robot Aurus and AI-powered Triton, to monitor no-swim zones of the beaches and assist in averting emergencies.
“Our lifesavers are fully prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise,” Awasthi said, adding that Drishti’s team is fully prepared to handle any situation.
The Ironman 70.3 Goa, known for attracting athletes from over 50 countries, involves a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycling segment, and a 21.1km run, covering a total distance of 113km.
