Bengaluru: A seven-year-old boy, busy playing as his school had been given a holiday Wednesday following an orange alert for rain, met with a tragic end: He fell into a pit dug for the construction of a lift at a construction site in Kannamangala, near Kadugodi, and drowned.
The deceased has been identified as Suhas Gowda, a resident of Kannamangala and class 2 student at a private school.Citing primary investigation, police said the incident happened between 9.15am and 9.30am. Suhas, along with a few other boys from the area, went near the construction site. Suhas slipped and fell into the 5ft pit, which was filled with rainwater, and drowned.
The other boys ran back to alert seniors of their locality. Initially, they approached women in the area, who didn't take the boys seriously. The boys then approached a few others, but by the time residents rushed to the spot and brought Suhas out from the pit, he had died. A cop said Suhas would have survived if people of the locality had responded to the boys' frantic calls.
The two-storey building was being constructed for a milk dairy, and a case has been registered under BNS against dairy president Sannappa. Suhas was the only son of Srikanya, a domestic help from Mulbagal in Kolar. She was married to a man from Doddaballapura, who left her and her son a few years ago. Since then, Srikanya moved to Kannamangala and was taking care of Suhas.
