Chandigarh: Reacting to the meeting between the Centre and rice millers, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said despite being aware of the millers’ concerns, the Centre was delaying action on them, resulting in unnecessary hardship for farmers and commission agents. AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu said farmers and commission agents had been protesting continuously and their crops were deteriorating, however, the central govt remained inactive. He criticised the govt for neglecting the issue for so long, calling the meeting a delaying tactic by the BJP. He alleged that the BJP’s negative mindset towards Punjab and its vengeful attitude towards farmers have led to this situation, as the party seeks to take revenge for the farmers’ protests. AAP spokesperson Neel Garg said five years ago, commission agents used to receive 2.5% of the MSP, which has now been reduced to just Rs 45. He urged the central govt to address the main demand of the mill owners — clear the old rice stored in Food Corporation of India warehouses promptly. tnn
