Patna: Amid protests by schoolteachers across the state for not getting holidays during important festivals, state education department has granted an additional holiday on the occasion of ‘kharna’ during Chhath on November 6.
Aaccording to a letter issued by the office of director (secondary education) Yogendra Singh on Wednesday, the additional holiday is applicable for all primary, secondary and higher secondary govt schools as well as aided minority Urdu schools.The letter added the holiday would be in addition to the existing holidays for the year 2024.
The protesting teachers, however, have been demanding restoration of earlier arrangement of holidays during festivals. “There is some relief. Something is better than nothing,” said Manoj Kumar, deputy general secretary of Bihar State Primary Teachers’ Association, welcoming the department’s decision.
