Ludhiana: Deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal claimed on Tuesday that payment worth Rs 685.5 crore had been cleared for the purchase of paddy from the district’s farmers. Discussing the progress of the procurement activities, he also claimed that 3.49 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in the district, of which 2.99 lakh MT had been procured. Jorwal also directed the chiefs of the procurement agencies to hasten the process of lifting the paddy from the mandis to make room for fresh stock.
