Panaji: Following recent findings by a govt task force about the sub-standard renovation of the Kala Academy complex, the artists’ collective, Kala Rakhonn Maandd, has demanded the relocation of the Marathi Drama Competition to a better-equipped venue. They said that performing in the current ill-equipped auditorium could harm the reputation of Goan artists and discourage young talent. They also called for a halt on events at Kala Academy until proper upgrades are done.
The recent inspection by the task force, led by renowned theatre personality Vijay Kenkre, confirmed that the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kalamandir auditorium lacks essential features such as adequate acoustics, sound systems, and lighting, rendering it unfit for professional drama performances.
“It would be a grave injustice to our artists to make them perform this year in an ill-equipped theatre lacking proper sound and lighting,” stated Cecile Rodrigues, general secretary of Kala Rakhonn Maandd, in a letter to the chairman of the Kala Academy and minister for art and culture Govind Gaude.
