CHENNAI: The annual performance appraisal report (APAR) of around 13,000 non-IPS Tamil Nadu police officers, ranging from sub-inspectors (SI) to superintendents of police (SP), is being done online now.
This is being done using the Smart Performance Appraisal Report Recording Online Window (SPARROW), an online portal.
Until now, this system was utilised for assessing IAS, IPS officers and other bureaucrats across India. It is for the first time in the country that SPARROW is being used for the annual performance appraisal report of non-IPS officers, according to a release from the DGP office.
The APAR, also known as the Annual Confidential Report (ACR), plays a crucial role for police officers during their promotion, deputation, nomination for medals/awards, transfer, and postings. Previously, the police officers had to personally meet their seniors to get their ACR reviewed.
