Hyderabad: Panic spread in the Chaknawadi area of Goshamahal after a portion of the road suddenly caved in. The incident happened around 2 am along the Darussalam-Chaknawadi route, near several plywood shops. Fortunately, no one was injured, and a major accident was avoided.

Early in the morning, a large crowd gathered at the scene. The police quickly arrived to control the situation. Many residents were alarmed, as this was the third time the road had collapsed in recent years.

Locals believe the road collapse might be caused by old infrastructure, particularly the ageing drainage system, which has been a concern for some time. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is already investigating previous road cave-ins in the area. Residents are now urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent future incidents.

Temporary repairs were made to the damaged road to allow traffic to pass. GHMC officials assured the public that they are working on a permanent solution to fix the problem and prevent further collapses. They are currently assessing the situation to determine the exact cause.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In 2022, a large section of the road collapsed, pulling down several vendor carts, bikes, and a car. At that time, GHMC officials explained that the collapse was due to damaged concrete slabs covering an open drain. They suspected the slabs broke because of fumes from the sewage.

In July 2024, another road cave-in occurred in the same area, swallowing part of a truck. The truck had been driving on a road built over two sewage pipes, and its rear wheels fell into the pit. These repeated incidents have left residents worried and demanding urgent improvements to the area’s infrastructure.
