Ghaziabad: A 45-year-old man involved in multiple robberies and carrying a Rs 50,000 reward for his arrest was arrested in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.
The suspect, Jitendra Singh alias Ravi, is from Gurdaspur, Punjab.
During interrogation, Ravi informed the police that he had been living in a rented house in Sihani Gate village for two months and confessed to committing robberies in areas such as Niwadi, Muradnagar, Madhuban Bapudham, Dadri and Badalpur after arriving from Punjab.
Detailing Ravi's recent crimes in Muradnagar, Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP of Rural, said, "On Sept 30, the accused snatched earrings from a woman while she was walking outside her house. On Oct 2, Jitendra brandished a gun and stole earrings from a woman farmer as she was heading to work."
Both the cases were registered at Muradnagar Police Station.
Around 10 pieces of gold jewelleries and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused's possession.
DCP Tiwari added, "We suspect that the jewellery recovered from him was stolen in the Niwadi, Muradnagar, and Madhuban Bapudham areas. His wife sold the remaining valuables to a jeweller. The motorcycle was purchased for Rs 50,000 in Ludhiana, and he would frequently change its number plate after committing robberies to evade police attention."
The accused was booked under Section 309(4) (punishment for robbery) of the BNS.
