Gurgaon: Two years after two men fired at policemen near Galleria Market, in which a constable sustained a bullet injury, a local court found them guilty and awarded seven years of imprisonment to them. The accused — Ismail alias Kala (28) from Ghaseda village and Junaid (26) from Silokha village, both from Haryana's Nuh district — had opened fire at the police team when the latter tried to stop a bike for regular checking.
A fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed on Ismail. The court of additional sessions judge Tarun Singhal on Tuesday held the accused guilty based on the evidence and witnesses provided by the police. The accused were held guilty on all accounts. During the trial, police presented the medical record of injured cop Gauri Shankar, CCTV footage of the spot and eyewitnesses in support of the case, while the accused were unable to provide any evidence in their support.
On April 16, 2022, Sector 29 police were checking vehicles at Galleria Market when two suspicious individuals were seen on a motorcycle. When signalled to stop, they tried to escape. While police arrested one of them, the bike fell and the other accused tried to flee. The arrested person instructed his accomplice to shoot.
As the other accused fired at the police team, constable Shankar received a bullet injury in the leg. Both individuals then fled the scene.
