Slug: Bullet Train Project
Vadodara: A steel bridge, 60m in length, was launched on the Bajwa-Chhayapuri chord line of Western Railway in Vadodara for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project.
Officials of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said on Wednesday that the ‘Make in India' steel bridge was successfully launched on Tuesday.
"This 645 metric tonne steel bridge, 12.5m in height and 14.7m in width, was fabricated at the workshop in Bhachau, Gujarat, and transported to the site for installation," an NHSRCL official said.
The bridge assembly utilised about 25,659 tor-shear type high strength (TTHS) bolts with C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings, all designed for a 100-year lifespan. "The steel bridge was assembled at a height of 23.5m from the ground on a temporary structure and was pulled with an automatic mechanism of two semi-automatic jacks, each with a capacity of 250 tonne, using mac-alloy bars. The height of the piers at this location is 21m," the official said.
"The project is being executed meticulously, maintaining the utmost standards of safety and engineering excellence. Leveraging Japanese expertise, India is increasingly utilising its own technical and material resources to build infrastructure under the ‘Make in India' initiative. The steel bridge is a major example of this effort," the official added.
Of the 28 steel bridges planned for the high-speed rail corridor, this is the fifth steel bridge that was completed.
