SLUG: FAKE TRIBUNAL CASE
Ahmedabad: Morris Christian, who was arrested for operating a fake arbitration tribunal with himself as an arbitrator, complained of custodial torture on Tuesday when he was produced before a magisterial court for remand.
According to additional public prosecutor H S Panchal, Christian was sent to the Sabarmati Central Jail for treatment after he complained that cops beat him while in custody.The magistrate ordered that Christian be produced in court on Wednesday afternoon with a report from the jail doctor regarding the injuries that Christian claimed to have sustained because of the police beating.
As the investigator sought Christian's custody for 14 days, the court posted the hearing on the remand application for Wednesday afternoon.
When Christian was brought to the court for remand proceedings, he alleged ill-treatment and beating by the police officials during his interrogation when he was taken to Gandhinagar for investigation.
He told the court that he was taken to the SVP Hospital for a medical examination on Tuesday morning and complained about the beating before the doctor as well, the prosecutor said.
Christian was arrested by the Karanj police following an order by the city civil court on Monday for impersonation, cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy for creating a fake arbitration tribunal. He illegally appointed himself as an arbitrator, arranged the administration of the court to make it look like a real court, and passed orders involving govt land parcels worth crores of rupees to usurp them.
