Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) is contemplating providing financial assistance to its domestic cricketers. A preliminary discussion on this proposal had taken place, and further deliberation was necessary, said representative of UPCA and BCCI, Rajeev Shukla.
In a media interaction following the annual general meeting of UPCA at Kamla Club, he suggested that the association was considering extending financial support to its registered players and others.He mentioned that discussions regarding the upgradation of the Green Park stadium with the state govt has progressed. "We are moving towards a positive outcome," Shukla remarked. General Secretary, Arvind Kumar Srivastava, informed the media that UPCA has engaged an architect to design the stands of the Green Park stadium to increase its capacity and prepare a proposal for installing a state-of-the-art drainage system in the ground.
Responding to a query, he stated that proposals would be submitted to the state govt within next three to four months. Providing an update on the Varanasi Cricket Stadium, the general secretary mentioned that the construction work was ahead of schedule and progressing satisfactorily.
He added that UPCA was also exploring the possibility of laying one strip of red clay in the center square of Green Park to prevent any complaints from captains. Discussing the changes, Srivastava revealed that 22 committees had been formed for the development of cricket in the state. He informed that DS Chauhan and Abdul Vahab had been elected unopposed to the governing council. They had filed their nominations, and since no one else contested, they were declared elected. President of UPCA, Dr Nidhipati Singhania affirmed, "We are committed to upholding the pride and glory of Green Park Stadium." "The stadium is not merely the pride of Kanpur but also a cherished asset of the entire state. Any shortcomings that may have existed should be swiftly rectified and addressed," he asserted. Singhania expressed that deliberations with the state government regarding the upgradation of Green Park were highly encouraging.
