Panaji: The leader of the opposition, Yuri Alemao, on Tuesday urged govt to take swift action to curb crimes and create job opportunities for the youth. His call to action comes in the wake of numerous incidents of housebreaking, which were allegedly done by unemployed young individuals.
Alemao alleged that more than 100 incidents of theft were reported in the last nine months across the state, involving unemployed youths.“Narcotic incidents also suggest that there is involvement of our local youth. They chose this illicit trade only because they don’t have any option to win bread. Govt is busy with events and commissions over it but has failed to heed the pressing issue of unemployment,” he said. Alemao further stated that at present Goa’s unemployment rate is higher than the national average and urged govt to take necessary steps to improve the scenario.
