Ghaziabad: A 22-year-old woman on her way for a job interview in Noida died as her two-wheeler was hit by a UP roadways bus near Guldhar metro station on Tuesday.
Soniya Singh of Meerut was on a scooty and had a helmet on when she was hit by the bus, hurtling from Meerut to Ghaziabad, from behind around 8.30 am.
Kavi Nagar ACP Abhishek Srivastava said the forceful impact threw Soniya off the bike, causing her head to slam against the hard road surface and the helmet to crack open.
The woman sustained severe injuries on her head, shoulder and abdomen and was taken to a govt hospital in Sanjay Nagar by some passersby, where she succumbed to her injuries.
"It seems Soniya was travelling from Meerut to her sister's house in Noida, from where she was to head for a job interview at a private firm last in the day. The woman's sister works in Noida. The roadways bus driver managed to flee after he hit the woman. We have identified him using the vehicle's registration number and duty roster. A team is already looking for him," the ACP said.
On the basis of a complaint submitted by Soniya's father Ashok Kumar, an FIR under BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) has been registered.
Earlier in the day, a 30-year-old autorickshaw driver, Rahul Kumar, died after his vehicle collided with a divider near Vaishali metro station and overturned. Police said the driver's head was crushed between the auto and divider leading to his death on the spot. A passenger was also injured in the crash.
Sahibabad ACP Rajneesh Upadhyay said Kumar, a Sahibabad resident, had been driving an auto on the route for the past five years. Around 2.30 am on Tuesday, he had picked up passengers from Anand Vihar and was on his way to Mohan Nagar. He was barely 50 metres from Vaishali station when he apparently lost control, allegedly as he was speeding, and the vehicle hit a divider. No complaint was submitted in the case.
