Lucknow: A jail official was accused of raping a student preparing for competitive exams on the pretext of marrying her. He met the girl on a train and offered help by providing her with a berth.
The girl filed a case at Gosainganj police station on Tuesday, accusing the district jail official of making a video and exploiting her by keeping her hostage.According to the girl, who belongs to Sultanpur, she was returning home by train from Delhi on Sept 7 last year. The accused, a resident of Khedka in Baghpat district, shared his berth with her as her wait-listed ticket was not confirmed.
The accused befriended her and even proposed marriage during the journey. The girl, impressed by the ‘good gesture' of the accused, gave tacit consent, saying she would marry him after she gets settled in life and career. She got off the train at Sultanpur. The duo later remained in touch over the phone.
The next month, she was travelling to Lucknow by bus when Pradeep asked her to meet him and made her get off the bus near Gosainganj police station. Then he took her to his friend's room in Mohri Khurd jail colony, where he forced himself on her, saying he was her would-be husband. After a few days, the accused called her again. "This time he threatened to make the video viral if I protested," she alleged.
She alleged that she was coerced into submission to meet the accused frequently. When the woman reached the govt residence of the accused in Gosainganj, the accused held her hostage for four days and sexually exploited her.
According to the student, on Sep 5, the family of the accused called her to Haidergarh in Barabanki to talk about marriage. They demanded Rs 15 lakh in dowry. The accused talked about marriage without dowry and then fled. DCP south zone, Keshav Kumar said that an FIR has been registered.
