LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two individuals, including a Junior Engineer (JE) and an official of the Cantonment Board in Ayodhya, on charges of bribery.
The accused were apprehended for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.
The arrested persons have been identified as Amit Dwivedi, a contractual Junior Engineer with the Cantonment Board in Ayodhya, and Vijay Mate, who also works for the same board.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on October 22 following allegations that the accused had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.
This bribe was in exchange for issuing an allotment or permission letter required for lifting wood that had been auctioned by the Cantonment Board for Rs 1.37 lakh and allotted to the complainant.
The CBI set a trap and caught Vijay Mate red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Further investigation, including a controlled phone call, implicated Amit Dwivedi, the JE, in the offense. Both individuals were subsequently apprehended.
The two arrested persons are set to appear in court on October 23. In the meantime, searches are being carried out at different locations as part of the ongoing investigation.
