Mumbai Crime Branch has apprehended Amit alias Nathi in Haryana's Kaithal district for allegedly sheltering Zeeshan Akhtar, a primary suspect in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. This is the second arrest in the case, with authorities continuing their search for Akhtar.
Kaithal: Mumbai crime branch has arrested one more accused from Haryana’s Kaithal district in connection with NCP leader Baba Siddique’s murder. Reportedly, the accused identified as Amit had provided shelter to Zeeshan Akhatr, a key accused in the killing.
The accused, Amit alias Nathi, is a resident of Bata village in Kalayat who has a shaddy background. He is accused of providing shelter to Jeeshan Akhtar while he was on the run, having rented a house for him in Karnal.Sources said that Amit and Jeeshan Akhtar were together for more than 15 days, two months before the murder. The Mumbai Crime Branch is currently questioning the accused in custody regarding Jeeshan.
Notably, Mumbai police had arrested Gurmel Singh from Narar village of Kaithal district few days ago and this the second arrest in connection with the high profile murder case. Mumbai police have been camping in Haryana for past few days to know whereabouts of accused involved in this murder and made two arrest so far. Zeeshan Akhtar who is a native of Punjab is still on run who was in touch with many persons of Kaithal district.
Reports indicated that accused Jashan Akhtar targeted youth in Kaithal to create sleeper cells for gangsters, frequently visiting the area. He was in contact with nearly a dozen youths, many of whom have criminal records. Numerous cases are registered against Jeeshan in Punjab. To evade Punjab police, he stayed in Kaithal, where he lived comfortably at various locations without the police or intelligence being aware.
Talking to TOI, Veerbhan Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Kaithal district confirmed that Mumbai crime branch personnel took Amit along with them to investigate the matter. Haryana police officials are cooperating with Maharashtra police and all activities are being done by their teams, he added.
