Jhansi: UP Governor Anandiben Patel addressed the 29th convocation at Bundelkhand University on Wednesday, urging students to engage in research and innovation, particularly in connection with the Defence Corridor, and to contribute to the nation's progress using the knowledge acquired at the university. She emphasised the crucial role of regional universities in facilitating this connection between students and research.
Governor Patel also encouraged students to delve into the country's rich cultural heritage through the study of ancient manuscripts, many of which are held by universities.She stressed the importance of digitising these manuscripts to ensure their preservation for future generations.
Highlighting India's emergence as a global power, the chancellor noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin sought guidance from Prime Minister Modi before the BRICS summit, and during the Prime Minister's recent visit to the US, 300 stolen cultural artefacts were returned to India. She also pointed out India's leadership role during the G20 summit and the country's progress towards becoming a manufacturing hub for the world through the Make in India initiative. India now ranks among the top five economic powers globally, with increasing FDI investment and the revival of Nalanda University. The chancellor attributed these achievements to the work being done in education, research, skills, and innovation under the Prime Minister's leadership.
During the convocation ceremony, 21,706 degrees were awarded, including 17,309 for graduation and 2,241 for post-graduation.
Eighty-two meritorious students, including sixty women, received medals from the Governor, comprising 36 chancellor's medals and sponsored medals. Additionally, 110 students were awarded doctorate degrees across various fields.
Chief guest, G. Satheesh Reddy, former Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and former defence minister scientific advisor, highlighted India's transformation into a developed country over the past decade. He noted the increased accessibility to premier educational institutions and the improving global rankings of Indian universities. With approximately 44.5 million students pursuing higher education in India and a significant increase in the number of engineering graduates, the country is witnessing a high placement rate of 95%.
