Bomb threats targeting over a dozen IndiGo flights were made via X on Tuesday, triggering a response from authorities. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has announced planned legislative actions to address such threats, including amendments to aviation security rules and placing culprits on a no-fly list.
LUCKNOW: Once again, miscreant elements posted bomb threats to more than a dozen IndiGo flights on Tuesday afternoon.
The X handle @/AndTulip17849 made bomb threats to 13 flights in at least 14 posts. "Hi. Terrorists Lucas and Tulip placed bombs on 13 of your planes (sic)," read the posts.
The flights for which bomb threats were made included Mumbai to Istanbul (6E17), Bengaluru to Lucknow (6E196), Mumbai to Srinagar (6E214), Hyderabad to Jodhpur (6E297), Kolkata to Ahmedabad (6E318), Bagdogra to Chennai (6E323), Goa to Ahmedabad (6E381), Kolkata to Jaipur (6E394), Lucknow to Goa (6E399), Pune to Dehradun (6E403), Kolkata to Bengaluru (6E455), Aizwal to Kolkata (6E433), and Surat to Goa (6E419).
IndiGo public relations office has yet to release statement on the matter.
Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday had said the government plans to take legislative actions to deal with instances of bomb threats to airlines, including placing perpetrators of such threats on the no-fly list.
In the last one week, nearly 100 flights of Indian airlines received bomb threats.
Addressing a press conference, Naidu said amendments are being planned to aviation security rules as well as the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982. "From the ministry, we have contemplated some legislative action if it is required. We have concluded that there are two areas that we can explore - 1) Amendment in Aircraft Security Rules...one of the ideas that we want to propagate by changing these rules is that once we apprehend the perpetrator who is behind this, we want to put them on the no-flying list... 2) Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act," Naidu told the reporters.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is continuously in touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs about bomb threats to flights, he said.
