All major waterbodies in Chikkaballapur district are full, thanks to incessant rain battering southern parts of Karnataka. Pinakini river, that originates in Nandi Hills and passes through Gauribidanur taluk, is in spate from Monday.
Jakkalamadagu tank which caters to drinking water needs of Chikkaballapur and Doddaballapur in neighbouring Bengaluru Rural district has also filled up after a gap of three years, said Nagaraj, vice-president of Chikkaballapura city municipality.He said water in the tank is sufficient to cater to the needs of both towns for more than a year.
Nagaraj said Srinivasa Sagara tank in Chikkaballapur taluk is also overflowing and has been drawing people from various parts of the state. Ranga Dhama tank is filled up after nearly four years and Kandavara tank will be full in another two days.
Amani Byra Sagara, as Gudibande tank is known, which is one of the biggest tanks in Chikkaballapura district, was brimming with water Monday. Spread over 287 acres, the tank last overflowed in 2021, said Suresh, a resident of Gudibande.
