Varanasi: The mother of a scrap trader was charred to death when a CNG cylinder exploded while being cut by his staff in Taktakpur area under Cantt police station on Monday.
ADCP Varuna Zone T Sarvanan on Tuesday said that Phoola Devi, the mother of scrap trader Pankaj Thathera, died when a fire broke out in the house-cum-warehouse on Monday night. The incident occurred when two staff of Pankaj were cutting a scrap CNG cylinder with a gas cutter.The CNG cylinder suddenly exploded, triggering a massive fire that spread rapidly throughout the warehouse. The blaze was further fueled by the explosion of an LPG cylinder stored under the same roof, turning the warehouse into an inferno. While all others present managed to escape the flames, the elderly mother of Pankaj could not flee and was burnt alive.
Upon receiving information, firefighters reached the spot and doused the flames. tnn
Eyewitnesses reported hearing the explosion from as far as 2 kilometers away, sparking widespread panic in the area.
