Sitting Simaria MLA benched, BJP picks ex-legislator’s son
Chatra: BJP chose Ujjwal Das over MLA Kishun Kumar Das as its candidate to fight the upcoming assembly poll from Simaria constituency.
Ujjwal (43), the son of the late four-time MLA Upendra Das, will be up against JMM candidate Manoj Chandra (44), who is the son of ex-Simaria MLA and veteran CPI leader late Ramchandra Ram.
When the Simaria seat was created in 1977, Upendra was elected as the first MLA on a Janta Party ticket.

He went on to win the seat in 1990, 1995, and 2005. He passed away in 2007, resulting in a bypoll. Ujjwal contested the bypoll on a BJP ticket but Ramchandra emerged victorious.
A management graduate from Jadavpur University, Ujjwal left his private job to pursue politics. His mother Manorama Das said, “Ujjwal has been associated with BJP for the past 15 years and actively involved in Simaria.”
Manoj joined the Ajsu-P following his father’s death. He contested the 2019 assembly election but lost to BJP’s Kishun Kumar Das. Now. as the JMM candidate, Chandra is leaving no stone unturned to win the seat.

Shiv Sena legislator Chimanrao Patil, 74, plans to step back from contesting the Erandol seat, endorsing his son Amol Patil for the 2024 assembly elections. Amol has been actively working to strengthen the party's base and holds significant local positions. CM Eknath Shinde has assured consideration of this request.
