Panaji: Walking pilgrims visiting the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier at
Old Goa will be provided free accommodation at the govt-operated Pilgrim Village, said Fr Henry Falcao, the convener of the Exposition Committee.
This service is aimed particularly at those travelling from other states or people who may have financial constraints in securing hotel accommodation.
Falcao said that Church institutions have also arranged accommodation that can be booked online. He said the Pilgrim Village will offer cottages specifically designed for walking pilgrims who have not made prior reservations or who cannot afford paid lodging.
“Many people are not technology savvy; for them, the pilgrim cottages are very convenient,” he said.
The only cost incurred by the pilgrims staying at the village will be for meals, with provisions made for affordable dining. “We are making arrangements for the paid meals,” Falcao added.
Speaking on the influx of visitors, he said, “We are anticipating 10 large groups of walking pilgrims from various states, along with several smaller groups from Goa and Belagavi.”
