Theft accused hangs self in police custody in Jaunpur

Varanasi: A 30-year-old man, Matru Bind, from Barouna area, died by hanging himself in the toilet of Shahganj police station in Jaunpur district on Saturday. Bind was brought to the station for questioning in connection with a theft case involving Rs 35,000.
On receiving information, Jaunpur SP Ajay Pal Sharma arrived at Shahganj police station. Following initial investigation, the SP said Bind was identified as the accused in the theft case and was brought to the station on Friday night for questioning.On Saturday morning, he hung himself with a rope in the toilet. A team of forensic experts was called in for evidence collection, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination, he added.
Bind's family reached Shahganj police station after learning about the incident, and a heavy police force was deployed to prevent any law and order situation as a gathering of people from his village began.
"Any persons found to have been lax in this episode will not be spared," SP Sharma assured. TNN
