Mumbai: An FIR was registered against two film producers of an online streaming platform for objectionable scenes and dialogues featuring underage children. The FIR was lodged under provisions of the
Pocso Act by MHB Colony police late on Friday.
The complainant is a yoga teacher based in the western suburbs. He had filed a written application with the MHB Police and later went to court.
Recently, the court directed the MHB Colony Police to register an FIR in the matter.
Police stated that a web series streamed by the platform in 2021, featured schoolgoing children in an objectionable scene. Another web series depicted obscene dialogues being mouthed by a child.
"We have applied the Pocso Act as children were featured in objectionable and obscene scenes, and the Information Technology Act has been applied as such scenes were streamed online. Further, characters in the show were shown smoking when there was no disclaimer flashed on the screen about the dangers of smoking. Therefore, the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act has been applied. Lastly, provisions of IPC have also been applied as the complainant alleged that communal sentiments were hurt due to some of the scenes," said a police officer. tnn
