Salem: Deputy chief minister
Udhayanidhi Stalin has instructed members of the DMK youth wing to commence poll work for the 2026 assembly election immediately.
Addressing the state and district level youth wing functionaries from across the state at a meeting in Salem on Sunday, Udhayanidhi said the 2026 election was crucial as
DMK was set to capture power for the consecutive term for the first time.
"Start booth level work like inclusion of new voters in the electoral roll right away," he told them. He urged them to intensify membership enrolment drive and reach out to everyone in the age group of 16 to 35 to be enrolled in the youth wing.
Udhayanidhi said the party leadership has commenced the poll work for its part. As part of the poll preparation, DMK's election coordination committee was meeting members of the party's various wings.
"We will soon meet youth wing leaders too," he said. Chief minister M K Stalin has set a target of winning 200 assembly seats and the youth wing should throw its might to achieve the feat, he said.
Udhayanidhi asked the youth wing members to stand by the people, take up the problems they face with officials and find solutions. If there are hurdles, escalate the issue to district secretaries and ministers.
Udhayanidhi said the next two months were critical as people would face difficulties due to rain. It is important to address the problems arising out of the rains, he said.
"Whether you are able to solve the problem or not, make a sincere attempt to resolve it. Empathise with them and show solidarity," he said. He noted that during the recent rains, opposition parties like AIADMK and BJP were not seen with the people. "It was the DMK cadres who did the relief work. People appreciated our service," he said.
Udhayanidhi then said that the party high command was appointing new office-bearers in the youth wing in several places and that all those who deserve would be given postings.
