The incident unfolded on Oct 18, when Shobhit, a resident of Madariganj, Unchahar, and manager of a jewellery shop, went missing after leaving his shop on a motorcycle with Dharmendra Saroj, a familiar customer.
"When Shobhit didn't return, his father, Rakesh Kaushal, grew suspicious and reported the case to Unchahar police. CCTV footage confirmed Dharmendra's involvement, showing him entering the shop alone and stealing the cash," said the police.
Inspector general, Lucknow, Prashant Kumar, said, "During interrogation, Dharmendra confessed to plotting Shobhit's murder as he was unable to repay the debt for pledging his wife's jewellery at Shobhit's shop. The two lured Shobhit to a deserted spot, where they killed him with a knife and disposed of the body."
