Guwahati: A team from Hatigaon police station apprehended a gang of thieves while they were breaking into a vehicle on Friday evening in Sijubari’s Khanka locality. Nine officers were injured during the operation as the suspects attempted to escape. The arrested individuals were involved in stealing vehicles and selling them in Meghalaya and Bangladesh.
The operation was led by assistant SI Dhrubajit Sarma.
The gang comprised five members from across Assam. The accused have been identified as Anowar Hussain (29), Dhanjyoti Doloi (21) and Hirakjyoti Boro (27) from Sonapur and Samiran Das (57) from Bapuji Nagar in Goalpara. The fifth gang member is currently on the run. A vehicle was also retrieved from their possession.
