Victim of hosp abduction a conman: Cops

Kolkata: A day after one Netai Dey from Gangasagar was rescued from West Midnapore and four of his “kidnappers’ were arrested, cops said they were planning legal action against the victim after it emerged that he had cheated them over a period of several months.
Cops said no less than Rs 48 lakh was paid to him for admission to a private medical college.However, even after no admission was secured, this money was not refunded.
Cops said the victim was kidnapped on Oct 14 but his relatives informed Sundarbans SP and Kolkata Police on Oct 16. He was rescued a day later from Rasulpur in West Midnapore by Jadavpur cops.
Four were arrested for the kidnapping — Tanmoy Das, Sarathi Das Adhikari, Tushar Das Adhikari and Himadri Roy. Police are also investigating the source of the money.
Dey claimed he could secure admission to any medical college in the state, including KPC Medical College, through a quota for Rs 70 to 80 lakh. He advertised that getting into medical college was easy and provided a contact number. He allegedly collected Rs 4 to 5 lakh in first phase from those who contacted him. Four from W Midnapore were seeking admission for their kids and met Dey outside KPC. They claimed to have paid him Rs 48 lakh.
