Police verifying email threat demanding 10 crore from city jeweller in name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi
Pune: The city police are verifying an email threat circulating on social media in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, demanding Rs10 crore extortion from a city-based jeweller.
Joint commissioner of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma told TOI, "The jeweller reported the threat to us four or five days ago, and we are verifying the details, including the source of the email, before a case can be registered."
A message is circulating on social media that the Bishnoi gang members sent an email to the jeweller allegedly demanding extortion of Rs 10 crore.

Sharma, however, refused to reveal the name of the jeweller, saying that he was a well-known person in the city.
The email threat received by the jeweller has been referred to the cybercrime police for action, he added. Cyber police station's senior inspector Suresh Shinde refused to comment on the jeweller's application inquiry.
Bishnoi, currently detained in a Gujarat jail, is suspected to be involved in the Oct 12 murder of NCP leader and former minister Baba Siddique in Mumbai. The Mumbai police arrested nine people in the murder case.
