Cops foil rape victim’s bid to commit suicide
Lucknow: The Lucknow police prevented a suicide attempt by a 26-year-old woman on Vikramaditya Marg on Friday.
The woman, who came from Kanpur and had lodged an FIR against a man, accusing him of raping her, consumed a poisonous substance. She was heading towards Hazratganj when, finding her activity suspicious, the police stopped her near the Samajwadi Party office.

They immediately admitted her to the Civil Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, the police said.
The woman, a resident of Kanpur Nagar, had lodged an FIR against an accused under Section 376 IPC (rape) and others."During investigation, the accused was arrested and is currently out on bail. The chargesheet in this case was filed a year ago from Kalyanpur, Kanpur Nagar and the matter is pending in the court," said DCP, central, Raveena Tyagi. "Kanpur Nagar police has been informed about this incident," the police said.
The victim informed the police that in 2023 one Nishant Kumar, who was then posted as constable with the 37th Battalion PAC Kanpur, came into contact with her through social media. "The constable trapped her in his love through Facebook and had physical relations with her several times. A complaint was lodged about the incident, but no action was taken," the woman told police.
