Surat: A private bus hit at least four two-wheelers and killed one person after its brakes failed on Friday morning near Kamrej crossroads. The bus eventually stopped when it collided with the railing on the service road.
Police arrested the bus driver, Bhikhu Khodbhaya, for negligent driving. Khodbhaya, a native of Sanosari village in Jamnagar, was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
In the incident, Kunaram Godara (27) riding a motorcycle died on the spot due to multiple injuries.

The person riding pillion, Mahendra Kinchad (19), suffered injuries. He lodged a complaint with police.
The bus from Kanaiya Travels was coming with passengers from Jamnagar. The driver drove it on the service road between Dada Bhagwan temple and Kamrej when it hit the motorcycles. The bus later stopped after crashing into the metal railing.
"The bus driver told police that the brakes failed so he could not control the vehicle. He tried to stop it after crashing into the railing. However, further investigation will reveal the exact details," said an officer from Kamrej police station.
