Sambalpur: A youth was critically injured on Wednesday when a violent altercation broke out during a festive gathering at Talab village under Sason police station limits of the district.
The incident resulted in the injures of other two youths as well.
In response to the incident, the police have detained one person, while another suspect remains at large.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 3am on Wednesday, during the ongoing rituals of the ‘Boil Jatra’, a religious event in the village.
The injured individuals were present in the village when the two suspects approached them and initiated a conversation.
The situation quickly escalated into a heated verbal exchange between the two groups. As the altercation intensified, one of the suspects armed himself with a sharp object and viciously attacked the youths multiple times.
ASP Haresh Chandra Pandey stated, “Both the parties knew each other well and they had past enmity. However, the cause behind their dispute is yet to be ascertained. One of the suspect has been detained for interrogation and other suspect is absconding”.
