B’putra engulfs swathes of land in Dibrugarh
Dibrugarh: The Brahmaputra, known for its unpredictable and forceful nature, continues to wreak havoc on the inhabitants of the Nagaghuli area, located approximately 15 km from Dibrugarh town.
In the past 24 hours, the raging waters of the Brahmaputra have washed away an alarming 120 to 150 metres of land, causing concern among residents.
Locals said the erosion has claimed vast swathes of land and rendered previous anti-erosion measures ineffective.
Stone boulders and geo-bags, earlier used to combat the river’s encroachment, have been swept away by the Brahmaputra’s powerful currents.
The failure of existing protective measures has heightened fear among the locals about the adequacy of the current erosion control strategies.
