Five die of suffocation while cleaning tank in Kandla edible oil company
Rajkot: Five workers suffocated to death while cleaning an oil storage tank in an edible oil company in the port town of Kandla in Kutch a little after Tuesday midnight.
According to sources in the Kandla Marine police station, the deceased workers were aged between 24 years and 32 years. Three of the victims were from Uttar Pradesh, while two hailed from Madhya Pradesh.

Police said the incident occurred in Emami Agrotech, the edible oil and bio-diesel arm of the Emami Group of Companies conglomerate headquartered in Kolkata.
Around 12:30am, one worker had entered first entered the oil storage tank to clean the sludge from the bottom of the tank. While cleaning, he fell unconscious due to suffocation. Others who entered the tank to rescue him also fell unconscious one after another.
They were rushed to the hospital in Adipur, the doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
The Kandla Marine Police Station has registered the case of accidental death under section 194 of the BNS.
Kutch East superintendent of police, Sagar Bagmar, said, "During the cleaning process, one worker fell unconscious, prompting two others to enter the tank to rescue him, but they too lost consciousness. Subsequently, two more entered the tank but they also met the same fate. We will conduct a detailed investigation."
The identified deceased are Siddharth Tiwari, Ashish Gupta, Ashish Kumar, Sanjay Thakur, and Azmad Khan.
Earlier in July, three labourers had died of asphyxiation while working in an illegal coal mine in Surendranagar district.
