Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said 40% of the strength of police stations along the state’s coastal belt will be deployed for night patrolling in the area to prevent any incidents that could create law and order situations. He also said that no open-air music will be allowed after 10pm in the state.
The remaining transfer orders of police personnel are expected to be issued within the next 10 days.
“I held a review meeting of the home department. Such incidents (cases at Calangute) will not be tolerated, and night patrolling has been increased,” he said.
Three incidents were reported within the jurisdiction of the Calangute police station in the recent past. These included instances of assault and molestation. Calangute police acted and arrested the accused in the case.
“Twenty percent of each police station’s staff are deployed for night patrolling, but at police stations on the coastal belt, it has now been decided to increase this deployment to 40%,” the chief minister said. “Open-air music after 10pm will be stopped by the police. Those who have taken necessary permissions to play indoor music will be allowed.”
Goa police has the highest crime detection rate and various steps have been taken by the police to control crime. “We have a 95% detection rate, and the police are now focused on controlling crime,” he said.
The police will randomly visit houses, and in case they find anyone staying without completing the tenant verification process, action will be taken. “Fines anywhere between Rs 1,000 and Rs 10,000 will be imposed on landlords depending on how many days their tenants were found to be residing at their premises without police verification,” Sawant said.
The chief minister also called on Goans to start business ventures in the state, be they traditional or new businesses.
On Wednesday, North Goa superintendent of police Akshat Kaushal, sub-divisional police officer (Porvorim) Vishwesh Karpe, and police inspector Rahul Parab met with 20 owners and managers of clubs operating within the jurisdiction of the Calangute police station. The owners and managers were directed to follow Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules and not to play loud music beyond the stipulated time. They were also advised to brief their staff to deal with tourists in a proper manner and to not misbehave with them. They were further advised to enhance CCTV surveillance of their premises.
