Kanpur: Tunnel construction for the underground metro section of Corridor-2 (CSA - Barra-8) commenced on Tuesday.
‘Gomti,' the fifth TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) in the project and the first for Corridor-2, was launched from the ‘up-line' at the launching shaft near Rawatpur elevated station. This machine will initially move from Rawatpur toward the Company Bagh intersection, constructing an approximately 650-metre-long tunnel leading to the Corridor-2 Depot ramp.
Additionally, a sixth TBM will be launched soon for the ‘down-line' tunnel construction.
Following the expansion of the existing Rawatpur elevated station and the construction of an adjacent underground station, this location will serve as a crucial connection between the two corridors of the Kanpur Metro.
Recently, the parts of the ‘Gomti' TBM machine were successfully lowered into a launching shaft approximately 15 metres deep at the underground station construction site.
