Mumbai, 16th October 2024: A 27-year-old man was killed in a road rage incident in the Malad area of Mumbai. The victim, identified as Akash Maine, was attacked while he was with his parents following a dispute over overtaking on Saturday, October 12.
The altercation began when a vehicle was overtaken, leading to a heated argument that quickly turned violent.
On Dussehra, Akash was out looking to purchase a new car when an auto-rickshaw passed his vehicle near the Malad railway station, prompting a confrontation with the driver. The situation escalated, and the auto-rickshaw driver, along with several associates, assaulted Akash, causing serious injuries.
A viral video of the incident captures the attack, showing Akash being beaten while his mother tries to shield him. In the footage, she is seen lying on top of him, desperately attempting to protect him as his father begs the attackers to stop.
Authorities have filed a murder case against the auto-rickshaw driver and three others under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
