Gorakhpur: Vice chancellor professor Poonam Tandon inaugurated a 30-hour value-added course for postgraduate students and researchers on ‘Environmental Humanities' at DDU Gorakhpur University on Wednesday.
The program was presided over by VC professor Poonam Tandon, who highlighted the significance of integrating environmental issues into humanities studies.
She stressed how literature can raise awareness about pressing global challenges and praised the department of English for its efforts.
Chief guest and BHU's HoD of English Anita Singh delivered an insightful keynote address on the critical intersection of environmental studies and the humanities. She referred to Robert Burns' poem ‘My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose,' highlighting how the poem symbolically captures the intensity and beauty of human emotions through the metaphor of a blooming rose. Prof Ajay Kumar Shukla, HoD English explained how it will explore topics such as climate change, environmental justice, water crises, and nature writing.
