Buses start plying on Taratala flyover
Kolkata: Traffic was disrupted on D H Road and Sahapur Road around Taratala-Mint on Tuesday morning after both ramps of Taratala flyover were closed from Sunday for repairs. The situation eased out only in the evening after cops made repeated requests to PWD and threw open the flyover to smaller vehicles after 5 pm and to buses after 8 pm.
“Given the collapse of the Majerhat Bridge not so long ago, we wanted to start repair work at the earliest,” said a PWD official.

“The south-bound flank was initially closed on Sunday morning. It is here that the joints are being chemically treated. However, with traffic moving on the north-bound flank, there were vibrations which disrupted the repair work. Both flanks had to be closed. We allowed movement of smaller vehicles from Behala towards Mint but stopped heavy trucks in the morning. We finally decided to request PWD and allow traffic movement on the southern flank after 5 pm,” said an officer. Buses were allowed a couple of hours later.
