Congress Committee on Tuesday appointed three ministers, including deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, as the party's senior observers for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, with immediate effect.
Maharashtra would go to polls in a single phase on Nov 20, while the elections in Jharkhand would be held in two phases Nov 13 and 20.
The results of both state assemblies would be announced on Nov 23, ECI said.
Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka was appointed by AICC as a senior observer for the Jharkhand assembly election. Congress MP from Bihar, Tariq Anwar, and former leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary from West Bengal, are the two other leaders drafted as observers along with Bhatti to oversee the party's electoral contest in the Jharkhand election.
For the Maharashtra assembly polls, irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and panchayat, women and child welfare minister D Anasuya (Seethakka) were appointed as senior observers.
Uttam was given the responsibility of the Marathwada region along with senior party leader from Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot. Seethakka was given the responsibility to oversee North Maharashtra division along with Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka, Syed Naseer Hussain.
In all, the AICC appointed 11 observers for the Maharashtra elections, of which Uttam and Seethakka are from Telangana.
