Cop held for taking ₹50k bribe
Chandigarh: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) of Haryana on Tuesday arrested sub-inspector Balwan Singh, posted at Sonipat City police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The money was allegedly sought in exchange for providing a copy of a settlement to the complainant’s brother.
ACB spokesperson said it had received a complaint regarding this case.

The complainant said a complaint had been filed against his brother at the the police station, which was subsequently resolved through a settlement between parties. However, sub-inspector Balwan Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to provide the complainant’s brother with a copy of the settlement. Prior to this, the accused had already taken Rs 3.5 lakh in bribes.
To catch the accused, ACB planned a raid. During the operation, Balwan fled with the bribe money, but was apprehended shortly afterwards by the ACB team. TNN

In Katihar district of Bihar, liquor smugglers attacked a police team with sharp weapons, critically injuring a sub-inspector during an operation to arrest Chandan Murmu. The smugglers and locals attempted to snatch police rifles, forcing a retreat. This is the second attack on police by the liquor mafia in Katihar within two days.
