Ramanagara: Barely 24 hours after the
Election Commission announced dates for the bypoll in Channapatna assembly seat, officials Wednesday seized several kgs of mutton biriyani allegedly meant for some 100 invitees of CP Yogeshwar, BJP-MLC and a potential candidate for the seat. The biriyani was seized from a kitchen of a resort at Kudlur, Channapatna.
Sources say Yogeshwar had arranged a meeting with his supporters to discuss strategy for the byelection.
The biriyani was meant for participants.
Election Commission officials said Yogeshwar had obtained permission for the meeting, but not to serve food.
"The permission letter clearly said beverages like coffee, tea, and buttermilk were allowed. Since biriyani was not mentioned in the list, it was a violation of the code of conduct," an official said.
