State IMA’s 12-hr fast in solidarity with WB docs
Bhubaneswar: Members of Indian Medical Association, Odisha state branch, on Tuesday observed a 12-hour fast in solidarity with junior doctors in West Bengal holding an indefinite hunger strike demanding justice in the case of brutal rape and murder of a PG trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, workplace safety and accountability.

“Young doctors of Kolkata are on a fast-unto-death struggle for their legitimate demands. They are on their 9th day of fasting. Three of them have been hospitalised. The movement has the support of the people,” read a letter issued by the Odisha IMA branch.
IMA has appealed to Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to accept their demands. IMA national president Dr RV Asokan met the fasting young doctors and leaders of the movement, it stated.
The letter further stated that IMA, West Bengal branch, is actively supporting young doctors led by its state president Dr Dilip Kumar Datta and state secretary Dr Santanu Sen. IMA’s Bengal branch has declared solidarity by organising a fast on Sunday (Oct 13) in all local branches, it said.
