Delhi resident lose Rs 5.96 lakh in insurance investment scam

A Central Delhi resident lost approximately Rs 6 lakh after being deceived by a fraudster posing as an insurance ombudsman. Claiming high returns on insurance investments, the scammer convinced the victim to transfer large sums to various accounts. The Cyber Cell is investigating the case.

NEW DELHI: A resident of Central Delhi lost nearly six lakh rupees on the pretext of high returns on investments in the insurance sector.
According to the complainant, he was contacted by a person claiming to be a "Bima Lokpal" (insurance ombudsman), who promised high returns on investments in the insurance sector. He invested Rs 29,939 and bought additional policies based on the caller's recommendation.
Later, the scammer pressured him to invest more for even higher returns.
He then transferred a total of Rs 5.96 lakh from his two bank accounts to various accounts provided by the scammer.
Upon reviewing his bank statements, he discovered the unauthorised transactions. The transferred amount was deposited into various savings accounts under the guise of additional insurance policies.
The Cyber Cell has registered a case under the relevant section of BNS and is investigating the matter.
