Chatra youth lynched for ‘theft’, cops detain 3
Chatra: A youth was beaten to death by residents of Malia village under the sadar police station on allegations of theft on Sunday, police said.
The victim was identified as Satyam Kumar (22), a resident of Kishunpur Mohalla in Chatra town.
Brahmadev Sahu, the father of the deceased, lodged an FIR with sadar police on Sunday against Pramod Ganjhu, Sanjay Ganjhu, Vinod Ganjhu, and 30 to 40 unidentified residents of Malia for killing his son.

Citing the FIR, the officer-in-charge of the sadar police station, Vipin Kumar, said, “Satyam had left his house early Sunday morning. Later, Sahu received a call from his cousin around 6 am on Sunday informing him that Satyam was tied to a pole by the Malia villagers for stealing solar panels. When Sahu reached Malia with his cousin, the villagers demanded money from Sahu for the stolen items before allowing him to meet Satyam.”
He added, “As Sahu was on his way to Kishunpur to arrange the money, he received another call from a villager informing him about his son’s deteriorating health condition. When Sahu returned to Malia, he found a quack from Badhar village, named Prakash Saw, had been called. Saw said Satyam has passed away and around 30 to 40 villagers, who were present at the scene, fled.”
The body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem at the sadar hospital. Three villagers have been detained. An investigation is underway, police said.
