Surat Police to get 12-storey state-of-the-art bldg
Surat: With the rising population and expanding borders, Surat Police have now geared up for their new administrative building in Athwalines. An e-groundbreaking ceremony for the same took place in the presence of chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday.
The new 12-storey building will be constructed near the present police commissioner office in two years. The different agencies of the city police which are now operating from different buildings and congested areas will shift to the new building.

Police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut said: "With Surat's population crossing 80 lakhs, the police force is also increasing. With the increasing force, we need more space, which led us to propose a new 12-storey building. The new building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 36.53 crore and will have a total built-up area of 12,785 square metres."
The new building will facilitate greater coordination among various agencies. "We will shift our Cybercrime unit, Traffic Department, Women's Cell, Eco Cell, AHTU, and other important agencies to the new building. The new building will have modern meeting and training facilities. It will also have big and small auditoriums,'' Gahlaut added.
There will be a huge parking area of 2,065 sq mt in the basement. From the second to the tenth floor, each floor will have a built-up area of 800 sq mt. The work for the building has been allotted to Sankalp Infracon, a builder based out of Ahmedabad. It will have all the firefighting facilities with emergency exits.
According to sources, the building will be solar power-enabled and will have high-security features, including biometric entries and number plate recognition for vehicles.
